FLORENCE, Ky. – Nearly four hours and countless raindrops after an on-time 6:36 start, the Tri-City ValleyCats topped the Florence Y’alls 14-13 at Thomas More Stadium.

A two-run home run by Tri-City’s Juan Silverio in the top of the ninth, the third and final lead change of the game, put the ValleyCats up a run. Closer Trey Cochran-Gill stranded two Y’alls in the bottom of the ninth to secure a series victory.

Florence answered an early 4-0 deficit with a six-run second inning and a three-run third. Tri-City battled back to take a 12-11 lead after six. A pair of RBI hits for the Y’alls in the next frame put the home team up 13-12, but the lead would prove to not last.

Ten players on each team recorded at least one hit. Five Y’alls ended with multi-hit nights. Left fielder Bryan Leef homered in the second inning, the only Y’all to leave the yard. Tri-City’s Denis Phipps drove in six runs, including a three-run home run of his own, Phipps’ second of the series.

Adam Hofacket, who pitched four outs in relief, gets the win for the ValleyCats. Their closer, Trey Cochran-Gill, earns his first save of the season. Joe Dougherty takes the loss. Despite a game with 27 combined runs and 32 hits, Florence pitching threw eleven strikeouts and walked only two batters.

This marathon, featuring heavy rain for roughly half the contest causing numerous misplays in the field, is the final regular-season meeting between the two sides. As a cross-division matchup, the Frontier League schedule calls for only one three-game series.
