FLORENCE, Ky. – Alberti Chavez hit a pair of RBI doubles, Edgar Martinez threw six strong innings, and the Florence Y’alls beat the Lake Erie Crushers 4-2 at Thomas More Stadium on Sunday.

Florence’s bats combined for five doubles out of their seven total hits in the contest. Chavez and Ray Zuberer each had two, with Axel Johnson providing another. The Y’alls now have 39 two-baggers on the season, good for second-best in the Frontier League, pending out-of-town scores.

The Y’alls came up with the win despite not hitting a home run, their first game in over a week without going yard. The four runs scored is the team’s lowest output in a victory all year.

Once again, Florence had to come from behind to beat the Crushers. Lake Erie opened the scoring in the top of the second, only for the Y’alls to respond in the same inning and not trail again.

Another pitcher’s duel featured Florence’s Edgar Martinez, who earned the win with six innings pitched and only one run allowed. Martinez retired nine consecutive batters at one point in the contest. Grant Hockin turned in a solid three-inning relief outing, then Joe Dougherty picked up his third save of the season with a scoreless frame.

After a rough first two appearances, the Y’alls closer has delivered in a big way. In Dougherty’s last six appearances, he has allowed only one total hit over eight innings, while striking out 14. The term “Close the Dougherty” has once again started to take form for the second-year Y’all.

With the win, Florence takes the series two games to one over Lake Erie. It is the second series victory of the season for the Y’alls, and their first against a west division opponent. The Y’alls take their 7-13 record into Joliet, Ill. for a three-game series beginning Tuesday.
