June 4, 2022- First Responders Night!
June 5, 2022FLORENCE, Ky. – The Lake Erie Crushers scored twice in the top of the ninth to break a tied game and even the series with a 4-2 win over the Florence Y’alls at Thomas More Stadium on Saturday.
Kenan Irizarry launched a double off the left-center field wall to drive home Rodney Tennie with nobody out in the ninth. The Crushers’ shortstop, who hit three doubles in the game, later scored on a wild pitch to double Lake Erie’s lead.
The rally served as a quick response for the visitors. Florence’s Brennan Price tied the game at 2-2 an inning prior with the bloop single. Anthony Brocato had the only other Y’alls run, a solo home run in the first. Florence has hit a homer in seven straight contests.
A pitcher’s duel from the start, both Florence’s Billy Damon and Lake Erie’s Joseph Sgambelluri turned in quality starts. Damon, thrust into action after initially scheduled starter Griffin Baker was scratched, delivered six innings of one-run ball. Bobby Brabrand, who allowed the go-ahead runs in the ninth, takes the loss.
Florence’s bats collected double-digit hits for the second straight game. Harrison DiNicola’s three hits led the way for the Y’alls. The utility man leads the team with a 6-for-8 batting average in the series. Anthony Brocato scored both of Florence’s runs tonight.
Lake Erie snaps a four-game losing streak with the win. This result forces a rubber game in the series at Thomas More Stadium tomorrow afternoon. Florence’s Edgar Martinez starts against Julio Vivas for a 1:07 p.m. first pitch.
