FLORENCE, Ky. – Florence Y’alls first baseman Brennan Price launched a two-run home run to left-center with nobody out in the bottom of the seventh inning. The big man’s moon shot was the long-awaited breaker of a 3-3 tie, and it led Florence to an 8-3 victory over the Lake Erie Crushers at Thomas More Stadium on Friday night.

Ethan Stern led off the fruitful seventh inning with his first professional base hit, a single. Craig Massey and Harrison DiNicola each knocked in runs later in the frame to cap a four-run inning.

The series opener had an inauspicious start for the Y’alls: Kenan Irizary and Jackson Valera, the first two Lake Erie batters, hit home runs against Florence starting pitcher Jared Cheek. Florence answered the instant deficit with a pair of home runs in the second. Anthony Brocato and Casey Combs both homered to give the Y’alls a 3-2 advantage. Florence would not trail again.

Cheek settled in nicely following the early trouble, with 6.2 innings pitched and three earned runs. He gets a no decision, with Kent Klyman earning the win. Joe Dougherty escaped a bases-loaded jam in the ninth to finish the game.

Following an uncharacteristically lackluster night at the plate, Florence’s bats came through in a well-rounded effort tonight. Eight of the nine Y’alls reached safely in the game, including a three-hit outing from Harrison DiNicola. Florence added three home runs to its total, giving it 25 on the season. Pending out-of-town results, that number is tied for the Frontier League lead.

The win is the team’s second in its last three games. It gives the Y’alls an opportunity to clinch the series victory tomorrow night. Griffin Baker starts for Florence against Lake Erie’s Joseph Sgambelluri. First pitch is at 6:36 p.m.
