July 5, 2022 Home Game
July 6, 2022FLORENCE, Ky. – Anthony Brocato hit his team-leading 12th home run of the season in the fourth inning to give the Y’alls a 3-2 lead, and for a long while, it seemed as if that would be enough to end Florence’s losing streak. The Lake Erie Crushers mustered two runs in the ninth to squash those aspirations and beat the Y’alls 4-3 at Thomas More Stadium on Tuesday.
The two runs came against Y’alls closer Joe Dougherty, who was aiming for his sixth save of the season. Kokko Figueiredo immediately blasted a home run to tie the game, and Sean Cheely hit an RBI single to give Lake Erie its first lead in the top of the ninth. Florence threatened in the bottom half, getting Brocato on second base, but no further.
Jake McMahill delivered another beauty at home for the Y’alls. In seven innings, the 24-year-old set a new high with 11 strikeouts while not walking a batter. He allowed only two earned runs, and saved Florence from having to exhaust the bullpen.
Both teams’ bats delivered eight hits. Brocato’s three hit night—a triple shy of the cycle—led the way. Alberti Chavez had two hits as well. Figueiredo came through with two home runs for Lake Erie.
The loss pushes Florence’s streak to eight games, a season-long. The Y’alls returned home after an 0-7 road trip riddled with one-run games. This is the sixth game on the losing streak that has been decided by one run.
